La via delle maschere
During the pandemic and lockdown period, I became interested in anthropology.
One day, an image of a mask reproduced on the cover of Claude Lévi-Strauss’s book “The Way of the Masks” caught my attention. The book narrates myths and legends related to the extraordinary ritual masks of the Native Americans of northwestern America. From there, my personal research began. Initially, I focused on the masks of the Haida Gwaii, the Indigenous people from the Canadian archipelago off the coast of British Columbia. Then I expanded my research to other cultures in Africa, Japan, and New Zealand. From these readings, a series of works dedicated to Claude Lévi-Strauss and his fundamental contributions to ethnology, structural anthropology, and contemporary sociology was born.
